Gene Wheeling

William Gene Wheeling, known to many simply as Gene Wheeling, passed away on August 30, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on July 2, 1944, Gene will be remembered with love for the life he lived and the many simple joys that brought him happiness.

Gene worked for the City in the Sanitation Department, a role that reflected a steady and hardworking spirit. Outside of work, he enjoyed the pleasures that made life meaningful to him. He loved fishing and gardening, and he also found enjoyment in riding ponies and driving cars. These interests painted the picture of a man who appreciated both the outdoors and the freedom of the open road.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillian Amanda Wheeling and Robert Franklin Wheeling. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Carl Wheeling, Betty Ann Wheeling, Louise Mcgee, Hubert Wheeling, and Marie Freeman.

Gene leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with affection and remembrance. He is survived by his sisters, Hazel Annette King of Rockmart, Barbara Chambers of Ackworth, and Stella Willaby of Ackworth, as well as his brothers, Roy R. Wheeling of Ackworth and Oscar Wheeling of Ackworth. May the love of family and the memories they shared with Gene bring comfort in the days ahead.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on August 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park, 10655 E Cherokee Drive, Canton, Georgia 30115. A second visitation will be held on September 3, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the same location. Funeral services will take place on September 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m., also at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park in Canton.

Gene Wheeling’s life was marked by work, family, and the everyday enjoyments that stay in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
