Rhoda “Renee” (Hopkins) Kline, 74, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Renee was born on August 21, 1952, in Sherman, Texas, to J. E. and Mignone Hopkins. She was steady, strong, practical, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. She had a remarkable sense of direction, good instincts about people, and a memory for details that the rest of the family often relied upon.

Renee was not someone who made a great show of her feelings. She showed her love more often in what she did: by being there, by helping, by remembering, by taking care of things, and by supporting the people she loved in whatever they chose to pursue. Her children and grandchildren always knew that she was in their corner. She took genuine pleasure in their interests and accomplishments, and family remained the central part of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Brescia; grandsons Zachary Brescia and Tyler Brescia; her son, Danner Kline; daughter-in-law Jennifer Kline; granddaughter Anne Camille Kline and grandson Rett Kline; and her brother, Craig Hopkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J. E. and Mignone Hopkins.

Renee spent several decades working in the medical billing department at Wellstar. After retiring, she took on another job of a very different kind: caring for her aging parents. She shared a home with them and devoted years to helping them through the later part of their lives.

She was an avid reader and particularly loved history and legal dramas. In retirement, she also immersed herself in genealogy. She spent years tracing the family tree as far back as the records would take her, uncovering stories and odd little facts about generations of relatives and happily sharing what she found with anyone interested enough to listen.

Faith was also an important part of Renee’s life. She grew up in the church as the daughter of a Baptist minister and remained involved in churches over many years. One of the ministries she especially enjoyed was the puppet ministry she led at Paper Mill Baptist Church in Marietta during the 1990s, where she worked with children and families.

And there were always dogs. Renee loved animals and rarely lived without one. In her later years, Mickey and Marley were constant companions and an enormous source of comfort and happiness to her.

Renee’s family will remember many things about her: her dependability, her strength, her curiosity, the way she cared for the people who depended on her, and the certainty that she would support the people she loved. She leaves behind a family that is better because she was part of it, and that will miss her very much.

A Celebration of Life honoring Renee will be held in the coming months. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later date.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
