Celebrating the Life and Faith of Miriam Bowman Wilson
September 30, 1930 – March 27, 2026
Miriam Bowman Wilson, a devoted servant of God and a beacon of love to all who knew her,
was called home to her heavenly Father on Friday, March 27, 2026. While we mourn her
absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the knowledge that she has been reunited
with her Savior and her beloved husband, Jack.
Born on September 30, 1930, in Moundsville, West Virginia, Miriam eventually moved to Florida
with her parents. It was on a double date in Jacksonville that she met the love of her life, Jack
Wilson. They were united in holy matrimony on October 8, 1950, beginning a beautiful 72-year
journey of marriage that served as a testament to commitment, faith, and enduring love.
Together, they built a life across the Southeast, creating homes in Jacksonville, Mobile,
Huntsville, Birmingham, and Georgia. Though Jack passed away in 2023, there is great comfort
in knowing they are now peacefully reunited in glory.
Miriam’s professional life was a reflection of her compassionate spirit. She was a dedicated
pillar of the medical community in Birmingham, serving at The Pain Management Center of
Brookwood Medical Center (1979–1991) and The Pain and Rehabilitation Institute (1991–1998).
A devoted Christian, Miriam’s faith was expressed through her tireless service to others. At
Dawson Memorial Baptist in Birmingham, she was an active member of the Senior Choir and
served the community through the flower ministry and Wednesday night dinners. After moving
to Georgia, she was a member of First Baptist Cumming and later enjoyed the spiritual
fellowship and services led by Danny Morrow at Merrill Gardens.
Miriam’s zest for life was evident in her many passions; she was an avid traveler, a talented
cook, and a dedicated gardener. Whether she was hosting an elegant gathering, playing a
competitive hand of bridge, or enjoying games with her dear friends at Merrill Gardens, Miriam
brought joy to every occasion. Admired by all who knew her, she was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. She especially cherished the magic of Christmas and the
togetherness of family reunions, finding her greatest happiness in the company of those she
loved.
Miriam is preceded in death by her parents Julius and Myrtle Bowman, by her brother, David
Bowman and sister, Willa (Bowman) Black. Surviving children are daughter Chris Swaim (Buz),
daughter Dorie Dickinson (Randy), son Jay Wilson, four grandchildren, Autumn (Swaim) Swann
(Andrew), Honey (Swaim) Brannon (Jeff), Mike Dickinson (Sarah), and Brad Dickinson (Abbey),
and ten great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Henry Swann, Hayley and Austin Brannon, Natalie,
Lexi, Julie, Ryan, Oliver and Noah Dickinson.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at
Macedonia Memorial Park on Wednesday, April 8th from 4 pm-6 pm. Following the visitation,
family and friends are invited to join in a time of celebration and fellowship at Woodmont Golf
and Country Club.
An interment service, celebrating her final earthly rest before the Resurrection, will be held at
the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, on Thursday, April 9 th at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Miriam’s memory to
organizations that reflect her heart for service: The Salvation Army (SE Department), Cherokee
Humane Society of Georgia or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
