A Powerful Prayer Warrior

On Sunday May 21, 2023, our Lord called his child home. Maeola Gilmer was born December 5,
1932 to the late Ennis and Rosie Morris and grew up in Panther Burn, Mississippi. In the late
40’s, she relocated to Kennett, Missouri where she began working for Emerson Electric until she
later retired after 26 years of service. During this time, she worked as a housekeeper for many
years.

In the early 70’s, she rededicated her life to the Lord and ignited her true passion for serving
God’s people. As a beloved mother of Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri,
she tirelessly interceded on behalf of many people. Because of her selfless love for others, she
hosted countless Bible Studies and prayer meetings and impacted many lives in the community
that she lived in.

She had an immense passion for reading and cooking. She was well known around the
community for her homemade hushpuppies. She was an avid reader and had a love for the
Word of God.

Although her memory began to fade in her later years, God allowed her to continue to fill a
room with laughter and funny innuendo's that would leave you questioning her true state of
mind. Her enormous sense of humor and love for family will truly be missed.

She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was
preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Turner and Virginia Johnson and three brothers; Jessie
Hygrade, Earl Morris, Sr., Daniel and Brimp Morris. She is survived by: three sisters, Hulda
Myles, Bertha Bentley, and Elnora Shelton, four children; Dorothy (Arthur) Bentley, Hinton
Gilmer, Jr. Kelvin Gilmer, and Marilyn (Isaac) Lemons; grandchildren, Steve (Jeannace) Bentley,
Sr., Adam Nelson, Stacy Gilmer, Aroya Gilmer, Kendria Gilmer, Kelvin Gilmer, Jr., Deondre Davis,
Jeremy (Brittany) Davis, Kevin Harrell, Calvin Harrell, Felicia Gilmer, Darien Johnson, and a host
of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a special friend (Helen Johnson), and loving and
devoted family and friends.

Visitation will take place Saturday June 3, 2023 from 11-1p at Canton Funeral Home and
Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park. Services and burial will follow.
