Born April 13th , 1942 to parents Lewis W and Agnes E Mitchell in Mt. Vernon, Illinois
She married Jerry E. Priest June 1st, 1961 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Madelyn worked at the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, OK. Madelyn always aspired to
be a nurse. Later in life she went to nursing school and graduated with her associate degree from
Oklahoma City Community College. She worked as a nurse at Baptist Hospital in OKC, OK and then later
worked as a nurse at Griffin Memorial Mental Health Facility in Norman, OK.

Madelyn attended St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in OKC, OK. She enjoyed watching her
granddaughters attend Sunday school, her church family whom she met through Disciple classes, and
Pastor DA Bennett’s sermons.

Her older grandchildren referred to her as “Maddy” (she didn’t want to have an “old” grandmother
name) They enjoyed time spent with her going to the matinee movies, playing games and as they were
older the girls’ weekends together. Holidays were always Madelyn’s favorite times spent with family.
Her younger grandchildren’s favorite memories of their “Mimi” were making pancakes with her in her
kitchen. Mimi would make Halloween treat bags specifically for them and would watch Halloween
shows and movies with them. Madelyn enjoyed Country Western Dancing, Cross-Stich, crossword
puzzles and gardening.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Jerry Priest, parents Lewis and Agnes
Mitchell, brothers Robert Mitchell and Lewis Mitchell Jr, sister Patricia Burnett. She is survived by her
daughters Cynthia Carter and Rebecca Dillahunty, grandchildren Jerry Nye, Heather Nye, Kacey Perkins,
Emma Perkins as well as numerous great grandchildren.

Madelyn passed away peacefully August 29 th 2023 in her beloved state of Georgia after an extended
illness.
