Laura Nicole Akers, a radiant light whose warmth and compassion touched countless lives, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Canton, Georgia, at the age of 49. Born on September 29, 1975, in Newport, Rhode Island, Laura’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her family, students, and community.
The daughter of James E. Hill and Eugenia A. Topper, Laura grew up with a deep sense of curiosity and kindness,
qualities that defined her every day. She shared a close bond with her brother, Zachary Hill, and sister, Stacey Serafin, who will forever cherish her laughter and steadfast support. On February 15, 2003, Laura married the love of her life, Jason H. Akers, in a heartfelt ceremony in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Together, they built a life filled with joy, raising their two beloved sons, Christopher M. Akers, 18, and Bohdan J. Akers, 15, who were the pride and center of her world.
Laura’s passion for education was a cornerstone of her legacy. As an elementary school principal in the Cherokee County School District, she poured her heart into shaping young minds for over 20 years. With a Master’s degree and Specialist degree from Kennesaw State University, Laura was not only a leader but also an inspiration, fostering a love of learning in her students and colleagues. Her schools were a place of warmth and encouragement, a testament to her boundless empathy and dedication.
Laura is survived by her devoted husband, Jason H. Akers; her sons, Christopher and Bohdan; her parents, James E. Hill and Eugenia A. Topper; her brother, Zachary Hill; and her sister, Stacey Serafin. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched with her grace and generosity.
Laura Nicole Akers was a beacon of love and kindness, and though she is no longer with us, her spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those she loved. May her memory be a blessing, and may we honor her by living with the same compassion and joy she shared so freely.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 4:00 pm preceded by visitation from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at 4:00 PM.
