Obituary

Rev. Kenneth Howard Godfrey - loving husband and father to his family and pastor to countless - entered into life eternal September 2, 2021 at the age of 76. He was born to Howard and Sarah Godfrey on September 20, 1944, in West Point, Georgia, where he and sister Brenda were raised and spent their formative years, graduating West Point High School. After studies at Columbus Technical College and a string of intermittent jobs, at age 24 he answered a call on his life to enter the ministry and enrolled at LaGrange College. Kenneth went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University in 1976, later becoming an ordained Elder in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Kens career as a minister spanned over 45 years and over a dozen appointments, including churches in the LaGrange, Carrollton, Griffin, Dalton, Rome, and Atlanta-Roswell districts. In 1970 Kenneth married his next-door-neighbor and love of his life, Sandra Godfrey, ne Backstrom, with whom he shared 51 beautiful years of marriage. He is survived by Sandra and sons Kevin (spouse Betsy) and Jonathan (spouse Jenny), and is preceded in death by son Christopher Kyle. He is remembered for his compassion, his kind-heartedness, and an athletic and outgoing lifestyle that remained strong up to his dying day. He was loved and will be missed tremendously.
