Jonathan Vincent Fisher

Jonathan Vincent Fisher entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord, surrounded by family on August 28, 2026, at the age of 81. Jonathan was born to Reverend Tracy and Mary Fisher in Valdosta, Georgia. Jonathan’s family traveled around the southeastern states as his father was assigned as pastor to numerous churches. As a child, Jonathan had a gift for drawing and, with encouragement from his mother, continued to develop this talent throughout childhood into adulthood. After graduating high school, Jonathan went on to major in Art at St. Andrews College, then at Pembroke College (now University of North Carolina at Pembroke). He graduated from Pembroke College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

After graduation, Jonathan enlisted in the Army, trained at Fort Sam Houston, and was deployed to Vietnam, proudly serving in the 221st Signal Battalion at Long-Binh and Binh Quoi as a Specialist Fifth Class Sergeant. Jonathan was honorably discharged from service in 1972 and came to Atlanta to begin his career as a Graphic Artist. He landed his first job as Graphic Artist for Georgia Public Broadcasting. Then later he was employed as Art Director by Channel 17 Turner Broadcasting for a number of years. Many of Jonathan’s illustrations for Turner Broadcasting and the Atlanta Braves were displayed on large billboards along Metro Atlanta roadways, as well as published in “TV Guide.” A number of Jonathan’s illustrations for Turner and the Braves were bestowed awards for advertising artwork.

Jonathan left Turner Broadcasting to begin his sixteen-year-long freelance career, creating presentations primarily for William M. Mercer & Associates Human Resources Division. Jonathan was eventually hired by William M. Mercer, designing and executing sales presentations in numerous cities in the eastern and midwestern United States.

In 1984, Jonathan met Judy Waters at Faith Memorial Church, where he taught the Singles Sunday School Class. During that time, he was also active in a weekly home Prayer and Bible Study Group. After a long friendship and dating, Jonathan & Judy wed in Spring 1990. Upon marriage, Jonathan became stepdad to Judy’s seven-year-old son, Nathanael, and together they had a daughter, Lydia Grace.

Jonathan later became a Deacon and Care Pastor at their church home in Conyers and taught several classes there along with Judy. After retirement, Jonathan spent his time in Bible study, reading mystery and history books, drawing and painting, gardening, making improvements in the family home, and enjoying times spent with his beloved grandchildren. He continued to occasionally teach Sunday School classes and lead Men’s Bible Study meetings at Conyers Presbyterian where he was a member for several years.

Jonathan was predeceased by his father and mother, Reverend Tracy and Mary Fisher and Sister-in-Law Joyce Fisher. He is survived by his wife, Judy; stepson Nathanael Waters (his wife Icha Waters) and five grandchildren -- Skylar, Minka, Kai, Kane, and Kira; daughter Lydia Fisher (her love Eric); Brother David Fisher; Sister Rebecca Fisher Sawyer (husband Thomas Sawyer) and Niece Emily (husband Cristian); Mother-in-Law Billie Roach; Sister-in-Law Janis Dack (husband Robert); Brother-in-Law Scott Davis (his Love, Sheree); as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in the future, with location and date to be announced. A grave-side service for family will be held at Georgia National Veterans Cemetery in Canton, GA in November. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Dementia Society of America in Jonathan’s name.
