Glenda Hime Thurman, of Snellville, Georgia, passed away Saturday August 9th at 3:00 pm. She went to meet the Lord she loved and served while surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Mark Thurman, daughter Claire Thurman, daughter and son-in-law Jeanne-Marie & Gregg Ritter, grandsons Stanley and Graham Ritter, parents Rebekah and Stanley Hime. and siblings Michael Hime, Nancy Brown, Timothy Hime, and Rebekah Jo "Bea" Hoben.

Her life will be celebrated in a memorial service on Saturday August 16th, 2014, at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Fugees Family (www.fugeesfamily.org) and the Alachua County Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center (218 SE 24th Street, Gainesville, FL 32641) are appreciated.

Glenda was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1974 and The University of Tennessee at Martin in 1978. Her first job was as a Bookkeeper at Gresham & Smith Architects in Nashville, Tennessee. Her last job was as the Operations Director at EON Products, Inc. in Snellville, Georgia where she worked since 2001. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother and spoiling her grandsons with Goodwill finds and trips to the park.

In addition to her family and professional accomplishments, Glenda volunteered her time and talents with many organizations including the Girl Scouts, Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, Holy Cross Anglican Church, and Adopt a Grandparent.

In 2007 she began volunteering with the Fugees Family in Clarkston, Georgia,(mailing address: P O Box 388 Scottdale GA 30079) which provides education, mentoring, and soccer programs to child survivors of war. She volunteered in the tutoring program, helped transport students to soccer matches, and helped fundraise for the Fugees Academy.

Glenda was diagnosed with melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer, in 2009. The cancer metastasized in 2013 and she began receiving treatment through Emory Winship Institute. On July 29th, 2014, treatment was no longer an option and she entered hospice care. She died at home in the arms of her family.

Macedonia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery are in charge of the arrangements.
