Bernard James Schwarz, age 92, of Canton, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

Bernie was born in Johnson City, New York on August 5, 1929. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Bertha Schwarz and a brother Vincent J Schwarz.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Patricia Ann Schwarz, daughters: Melinda Schwarz and Melissa (Rusty) Blevins, (4) grandchildren, Carlee (Joseph) Kashas, Marissa (Jacob) Buttrey, LeeAnn Blevins, Lexie (Brandon) Hitchcock; 2 great-grandchildren, Paislee  and Paul Dale Buttrey; several nieces and nephews including Bob and Coleen Hebbard who frequently visited her favorite uncle; several great-nieces and great nephews, many loyal and trusted friends and his constant 4 legged companion Holly.

 

Bernie always wanted to be remembered as one of the “good guys” and that he was!  He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all.

 

He was an avid accordion player throughout his entire life, especially enjoying the big band tunes.  He also enjoyed playing tennis and could put a mean spin on almost any returned ball.  He and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed numerous trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, the Caribbean and snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park with friends and family.

 

Funeral services will be Friday, July 15, 2022 at St Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church.  Visitation will be at 10:00 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00, reception to follow and entombment at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church, 490 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, GA 30188 or St Jude at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
