Agnes Jones

December 1, 1934 — January 5, 2015

Mrs. Agnes Edmands Jones 80, of Ball Ground, GA passed away Monday, January 5th 2015 from an extended illness.  A memorial service will be held Saturday January 10th 2015 at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, GA at 11:00 AM.  Inurnment will be held Monday January 12th at 10:30 AM at the Georgia National Cemetery.

Agnes was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest pleasure in life was being surrounded by friends and family and feeding everyone exceedingly well.  She was born the 4th of 7 Edmands siblings and raised in Wakefield, Massachusetts. After graduating from Wakefield Memorial High School in 1952 she went to work for an insurance company in Wakefield as the bookkeeper. She married her high school sweetheart Robert W. Jones in 1959, and so began her sojourn around the world as she joined him in his Air Force Travels.

Starting their military life together at Turner Air Force Base in Albany, Georgia in the early 60’s was an exciting time to be sure. She was perhaps not as excited to have enjoyed giving birth to their first daughter while her husband was on a 15 month long unaccompanied tour in Goose Bay Labrador, Canada.  After which they traveled as a family to Hahn AFB, Germany where she began her lifelong association in the Officers’ Wives Club, serving in many capacities, most often as treasurer. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and touring the Alps with potty chair in tow and the Riviera with strollers. Leaving Hahn for Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX she voyaged on the HRH Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner while her second daughter learned to walk. Many memories were made while living in Germany, Holland, Colorado, Virginia and Alabama. Where ever she travelled she made a home for her family. She always looked forward to the summers in Massachusetts with her sisters for “Sister’s Club” and trips to the beach with nieces and nephews.

Agnes has set the bar high for her two daughters regarding how to mother, she has shown her grandchildren the joy of generosity and love. She was an excellent partner and wife furthering her husband’s military career efficiently and with great organizational and entertaining skills.   And although she leaves a hole in our hearts and in the middle of our family we know she is at peace and rests with the Lord.

Agnes is preceded in death by her parents Mr. Francis Waldo Edmands and Mrs. Margret Gorman Edmands.  Brother Frank Edmands, Sisters Teresa Ledoux and Gladys Rice.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband Robert W. Jones. Daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Chris Johnson. Daughter Patricia Elaine Jones. Grandchildren Monica Rose Poole, Dever Francis Johnson and Oliver Rand Johnson.  Sisters Margret Gibbons, Rita Lovett and June Pizzano.
